Richmond 3rd at Hastings Marathon

By 21 May 2013No Comments

The Hastings Marathon was held last Sunday, and the Richmond team finished third, just behind Tonbridge and Wey. This was an excellent result considering our team was a lot smaller than normal, and a massive improvement on our performance last year when we had just two paddlers and finished last in the regional rankings.

James King led from the top, making an excellent post DW return with 1st place in division 1. Our other divisional winner was Nev who made his Hasler debut in division 9, and won with enough time to spare to get lost and complete an unscheduled mid river turn. This was followed swiftly by a promotion to division 7. Lilla also did very well to win her U12 lightning race.

Ben Phillips in C1 was 2nd in division 7 and narrowly missed promotion to division 6. He was followed by Lily in 6th, John in 10th and Adrian in 15th. Ben Powell was 5th in division 6, and Chris had an early swim but made up lots of time in the division 4 race to finish 5th. Ewan was 4th in division 8, Emily 14th in division 9 and Kyra and Jasmine were our only K2, finishing 2nd in division 9.  Full results are available here

There are more chances to race this weekend and next, with Reading’s race on Sun 26th May and Maidstone a week later on 2nd June. Attendance at Maidstone is particularly important as this is a Hasler race in our region. If you would like to race at Reading please let Will know by lunchtime this Friday.
