Gent Marathon

Richmond paddlers made up 4 of the BCU development team that were invited to race at Gent marathon, Belgium, following their performances in winter events. Ben Phillips and Adrian Meikle- Briggs were selected to race in the C1, with Ben Powell and Lily Wong in the junior mens and ladies K1.

The team travelled on Friday, with racing taking place on Saturday. The 12 mile course took in laps of the regatta lake and canal, with the number of competitors on the water at the same time leading to choppy conditions. In the junior girls race Lily took an excellent 3rd place aged just 14. This is even more impressive as she was racing in the U18 category, which she has a further 4 years left in! Adrian and Ben coped well in the difficult conditions, taking 1st and 2nd in the C1 class. Ben Powell had a good race to finish in 7th, having contested 5th position with a group containing other BCU paddlers.

Great results from all the Richmond paddlers and just reward for all the hard work that has been put in by athletes and coaches this winter.
