Paddlers wanted for Great River Race 2004
13:15, 11 September 2004, Ham to Greenwich, 22 miles
After the success of last year’s Great River Race outing the gloriously sleek C8 is going to be dusted down for this years race on 11 September 2004. We need eight paddlers to complete the race which starts in Ham and ends, after 22 miles, in Greenwich.
In general it is an enjoyable event and while not short, does give paddlers the chance to see the Tideway without having to suffer the pain of Devizes-Westminster. Last year’s scratch team, assembled the night before, put in a commendable performance with no training - but then we did have Sean Martin and Richard Hendron setting the ridiculous and ever faster pace at the front and Tadgh MacIntyre shouting at the slacking crew from the back.
This year we’d like to get a full team of eight paddlers together.
What will you have to do and what to do next?
- We’ll be looking for at least a couple of training sessions.
- The pleasure of taking part will cost you about £30.
- If you’re interested drop Peter Hutchison an email on peter.hutchison@ukonline.co.uk
If you want more information have a look at www.greatriverrace.co.uk
If we get enough interest, we may enter more than one team (subject to finding a second boat). Thanks Peter
