Richmond Canoe Club

Training Program - Winter 2003

Richmond's winter programme for 2003 is based around the following components:

  • Tuesday - Circuit session with Trish Davey.
  • Thursday - Intermediate and fast evening session. Lights are required, and buoyancy aids are recommended.
  • Saturday - Club groups
  • Sunday - Marathon race or club 10k

This winter, Richmond is introducing a five coaching group system to allow paddlers to get the best from each coaching session. Paddlers will be ranked on a Glovers time, and allocated to the most appropriate group in discussion with their coach.

The groups are:

Lead Coach Alternate coaches National Handicap range Glovers time
Peter Barnes Tim Joiner, Mark Pearce 37 or below 7.35 or slower
Tim Joiner Craig Haupt, Roxane Dunn 28 - 36 6.50 - 7.30
Wendy Pereira Tim Joiner, Craig Haupt, Roxane Dunn 23 - 27 6.25 - 6.45
Marcus Gohar Wendy Pereira, Roxane Dunn, Liz Greasby 18 - 22 6.00 - 6.20
Alexis Gohar Marcus Gohar, Mark Pearce, Charmian Gradwell 17 or faster 5.55 or faster

At least once a month, all groups will undertake a Glovers time trial at the beginning of their session, details will be held on the club ladder and to change to a higher group, you will need to achieve the required time for the faster group, and agree a change with the two coaches involved.

Video sessions will be available during club coaching sessions or on Sundays by arrangement with your coaches.

Bespoke training can be arranged for individuals or groups to help prepare for specific races or to further improve your technique.

A programme of Master classes will be arranged for each coaching group during the winter.
