Richmond Canoe Club has launched a new schools initiative in partnership with British Canoeing: the Canoe Club is aimed at year 7 and 8 pupils from local schools, providing them an opportunity to try the sport of canoeing.

The summer presents an ideal opportunity for young people to learn a new sport, explore the river and enjoy the great outdoors. With this in mind, the 10 session course will run during the summer term starting week commencing 27th April, and will consist of weekly, one hour water sessions where pupils will be introduced to canoeing.

The sessions will take place from Richmond Canoe Club and will be delivered by a qualified British Canoeing coach. They will also be supported by assistant coaches to ensure close supervision and a safe learning environment for the new paddlers.

The course will end with an inter-school regatta on Sunday 12th July, to which all course participants and their parents are invited for an afternoon of paddling and fun on the water.

For schools that are taking part, pupils can apply for a place by completing the application form and pay using our page on WebCollect bookings site here.

Following the course, pupils will have the opportunity to join the club and continue their journey into canoeing. For some participants, they may be invited to join the club’s junior elite squads and pursue their development in canoe racing.

In line with the clubs position as a British Canoeing Talent Club Partner, Richmond Canoe Club junior squads train multiple times a week both on and off the water aiming to compete at the national and international level.
