Paddling for Adventure Racers

Intermediate Course

This course is designed for competent paddlers who want to develop their skills and ensure achievement of accreditation. The complete programme can be undertaken over two half or one full day, or an abbreviated half day version is available as a brush up prior to accreditation or testing.

  • Warm up in the Gym and initial work on paddling machines
  • On the water in a boat to suit your ability - boat, buoyancy aid and paddles provided
  • Brief recap of basic skills
  • Developing paddling skills to make full use of the trunk and leg muscle groups
  • Improving your balance and directional stability
  • Safety afloat - towing, rescues and throwbags.
  • Understanding current flow and making it work for you
  • Wash hanging - how to let another boat do the work
  • Tips for those inflatables
  • Beach and pontoon launching practice, effective portaging
  • Teamwork in kayaks
  • BCU 2* Kayak test (optional £6 extra)
  • Coffee / Tea / biscuits provided on all courses
  • Lunch included on full day course
  • Certificate of Course Completion

Cost: £50 (half day), £85 (full day)
