Richmond Canoe Club was founded in 1944. Today,
the club concentrates on sprint and marathon racing and recreational
paddling, both in canoes and kayaks.
The club runs a variety of courses and training
sessions for all ages and abilities. (See Courses & Training
Sessions)
Members of the club have represented various countries
as paddlers and coaches at every Olympic Games held since 1952.
The club is the current holder of the civilian team title of the
125-mile Devizes to Westminster Canoe Race and has won numerous
national inter-club championships.
As the only racing canoe club 'on the tube' (ie:within
easy reach of London Public Transport System) it has been for many
years the base for many top foreign paddlers living in London. Australians,

training base in England.

Foreign legions
For many years now, Richmond Canoe Club has been
the base away from home for a large number of foreign paddlers,
many of whom paddle at international level.
The club has a strong Irish membership, surpassed
only by the number of South Africans at the club. In addition, there
are Australians, Kiwis, Zimbabweans and a variety of European paddlers.
Reason for this are varied but it certainly helped
by the fact that Richmond is the only big racing club within the
'Tube'', London's urban underground railway system. In practical
terms this is the only club where someone working in central London
could train everyday. Even for weekend paddlers, being able to get
out regularly without needing a car continues to be a big attraction.
Richmond Canoe Club would like to extend a particularly
warm welcome to overseas paddlers. If you're visiting the UK for
any length of time and will be based in the London area, get in
touch or drop by. We'll try to help you make your stay in Britain
a memorable one.
