Junior Novice / Progress (kayak)

A group run for younger paddlers between the ages of 10 and 16. During the winter months this group spends more time in the gym, only paddling when the weather and waters allow.

Junior Novice

Adult Novice / Reception - New Paddlers
Saturday 13:30

Coach: Jemima Johnstone with the help of Catherine, Kevin, Klaudia, Paul, Sonia, Steve and others. This is the group for complete novices and those who may not have paddled placid water boats before. All newcomers to the club are encouraged to take their first few outings with this group to learn their way around the Thames locally and to familiarise themselves with club safety procedures.

Adult Reception
Saturday 9:00

Coach: Peter Barnes with assistance from Mike Foster and Geoff Duniam. This open access group is for people that are new to canoe sport that have progressed from the 13:30 Adult Reception Group for new paddlers. Div 7/8/9. National Handicap: 37 or below. Glovers time: 7.35 or slower

Adult Improvers
Saturday 9:30

Coaches: Jim Mullany and Gary Coulton. 09.30 This group draws on the Saturday Adult Beginners group (Coach Peter Barnes) as well as anyone else with confidence on the water The Improvers Group offers the faster and more stable developing paddler the opportunity to learn the techniques they will need to improve and achieve their personal objectives, whether this be racing or just improving. There will be a monthly programme of three weeks where we will mix various race exercises (intervals/pyramids and races to places) with a range of technique routines. A maximum of 12 paddlers will be taken each week and the group split into speed sub-groups as appropriate. On the fourth week Gary will take a maximum of three paddlers for dedicated paddling technique coaching. As a guide you will need to be in Div 7/8/9. National Handicap: 28-36 or Glovers time: 6.50 - 7.30.

Any changes to the schedule will be noted on the Club Site.

Adult Racers
Saturday 10:00

Coach: Marcus Gohar with support from Sean Martin. A group for fast, experienced paddlers rather than a coaching group. You will require a good level of personal fitness and stamina. Div 4/5/6. National Handicap: 17 or faster. Glovers time: 5.30 to 6.15.

Adult Seniors Racers
Saturday 9:00 (prompt)

Top end, head down. Div 1/2/3.

Canadian Racing

Monday–Wednesday, 5.00 for gym and 4.00 for water by arrangement (juniors), and 6.00 gym for adults. Saturday on the water at 9.45 for advanced racers, 11.45 for juniors and 1.30 for adult novices / improvers.
