This course is intended for those who are new to paddling or who want to develop their skills to become more effective paddlers. The complete course can be taken over a full day or two half days.
Warm up in the Gym and initial work on paddling machines
On the water in a boat to suit your ability - boat, buoyancy aid and paddles provided
Development of basic skills, paddling forward stopping and turning
Improving your balance and directional stability
Understanding current flow and making it work for you
Wash hanging - how to let another boat do the work
Tips for those inflatables
Beach and pontoon launching practice
Teamwork in kayaks
Introduction to effective canoe paddling
BCU 1* kayak test (optional full day only - £6 extra)
