MP Pledges to support the future of Richmond

27/07/2002

Local MP Jenny Tonge visited Richmond Canoe Club on Saturday 27th July.

The MP, whose family have trainied at the club, was alarmed to hear that developments on the river frontage are causing difficulty to the club.

"This is a really valuable asset to the local community" said Jenny. "I've seen young people and adults being introduced to canoeing this morning, and a club which is so open, and offers such an exciting introduction to the sport must be preserved."

As a racing canoe club, Richmond has trained competitors in the Olympic Games and World Championships, and also provides high quality training for adults and young people who just want to get fit and have some fun.

The MP spent an enjoyable hour meeting a number of canoeists, some of whom were trying the sport for the first time.
