Richmond Come Home Strong on DW Again

25-28 March 2005

Another Easter and another strong Devizes Westminster performance for Richmond. Charlotte Heijnis & Karen Triegaardt came in as the 1st female crew. Henry Hendron came in second in the Senior Singles, four-day event despite toying with illness. Piran Shelley &  Nevil Stonehouse came in 3rd in the Senior Doubles with a blistering time of 18 hours, 45 mins.

Great performance from Linda and Scottie, with Ben and Paul coming home in 22 ½ hours – and Paul hadn’t been in a kayak before last summer.

Stories are bouncing around. Stephen and Robert had a broken rudder and managed to get it sorted and continue. And there is one report of one of our faster crews having a similar problem.

Henry and Graham produced incredible performances over the four day event. Henry thinks it’s harder than the straight through. Graham thinks it’s easier. Try it next year and decide for yourself.

Three adopted RCC paddlers, although they competed as Para 4, came in after battling with adversity. Clearly if you’re a first timer for DW, guidance and instruction from Peter Barnes is a pretty good route to take.

Pictures coming soon - if you have any email them through.
