Liffey Descent - Results - Photos

13/09/03

As usual, descent racing produced its share of unexpected results. Our potentially fastest boat, the Hendron K2 failed to finish - broken rudder, while our potentially slowest boat, SM in his Wild Water Racer, was fastest Richmond paddler and our only podium result! I think everybody else at least finished. A small selection of pictures below - any more out there?

Henley Marathon

14/09/03

Lovely weather, great turnout from all clubs, seventeen people plus support (Trevor) from Richmond. Congratulations particularly due to Sue Back, 2nd in Div 8 (and promoted on the spot), Andrew French, 1st in Div 7 and Eleanor Broughton, 3rd in the same division. Nick Lloyd and Melissa were beaten into second place by Sam Hyman and Ollie Sims in Div 5/6 K2, and Jordan and Sean did well to finish 3rd in Div 3/4. Well done everyone who paddled.

Trish Davey update - RESULTS: Womens K1 1000m - Updated

11/09/03

It would appear my threats of showing Trish up the next time we raced against each other has worked and she is now keeping us all more updated on her progress.

Just a quick update from Gainsville...

Racing started today after 10 days getting acclimatised and over jet lag. It is not too hot or humid here - perfect conditions. The lake itself is beautiful and very big! We are only on one small section of it, and feel like a small boat bobbing around in the middle...

The British team is staying in a nice motel about 5 mins walk from the meal hall, and 15 min drive to lake. We get on yellow school buses to go anywhere!

The opening ceremony last night was quite fun. After the usual speeches, there was gospel singing and country music.

My 1000m heat went ok this morning- got 3rd so straight to final which saves a race tomorrow morning. Have K4 500m heat this pm, which will be tough. There are no slower crews here - teams have only brought boats with chance of Olympic qualification (top 6).

Marlow Marathon

07/09/03

Select turn-out at Marlow marathon (at least from Richmond - there were a fair few Nottingham escapees from other clubs present). Roxane did very well, coming third in Div 7 K1, and both she and Melissa left with a prize for turning up (aka first female paddler in the division).
