Success at the National Championships held in Nottingham last weekend for local paddlers Ben (8) & Jack (9) Killip, Ciran Brereton (10) and Josh Henman (9). The races were in the under 10 category, 500M and 1000M sprints with Jack (left) winning two silvers, his brother Ben (far right kneeling) 5th in both races, Ciran winning gold and bronze with Josh (second from left) coming 6th in both but is also showing his medals won at the previous regatta in June. "I love winning medals!" said Jack, "Golds my favourite colour!" while brother Ben declared canoeing for Richmond as "Fantastic!". The boys were also joined by Trevor Wetherall (centre) the club sprint coach who said "Its a great achievement for these youngsters at such an important Regatta, we would love to see more Richmond youngsters take up the sport to compete and have fun just as these guys have"
Richmond's senior paddlers also triumphed with Gavin Turrell snatching victory to become the British 200M champion in what may be his last race in the UK. Everyone at the club would like to wish Gavin and his wife good luck as they emigrate to Australia in August. Other notable successes came with the senior men securing Silver in the Men's A K4 final, with Sam Hyman (17) one of the clubs juniors making a guest appearance in the boat, well done to him!!
The club continues to celebrate its 60th Birthday in style and is looking forward to the interclub championships in Nottingham in September where it hopes to have 60+ paddlers representing the club in the last Regatta of the year
