WEDNESDAY 10K RACE NIGHT CATERING

29th June 2004

Richmond Canoe Club has arranged for an external caterer to provide a hot meal for participants in the 10k time trials on Wednesday evenings.

It is felt to be an important factor to the meeting, but obviously the price will be slightly higher than in the past, with the club making only a small profit, which we hope that members will appreciate.

Sheets will be provided to sign up before the race and vegetarians will be catered for. The cost of the meal will be the reasonable price of £4. The Club kindly requests that paddlers volunteer to serve the food and ensure that monies taken are given to a committee member at the end of the night.

Thank you for your support.

This service will be provided until further notice. Any feedback, please contact Debbie - harrisondebbie@hotmail.com

Support the Restoration of the Cotswold Canals

21st June 2004

The Heritage Lottery Fund has recently deferred its decision on whether or not to fund the first phase of the restoration of the Cotswold Canals and will reconsider its position in July 2004. Other important bodies such as the South West Regional Development Agency are also considering whether or not to fund the project.

The Cotswold Canals Trust has been campaigning for the restoration of these canals for more than thirty years and many volunteers have worked hard to save these canals with the support of the local communities. The Trust is organising this petition to demonstrate support for this important project and ask that you help us by signing it.

Why does this effect us? More water, more paddling and more paddlers. Many of the canals we paddle on have been restored by groups like the Cotswold Canals Trust in recent decades years. So a little support with something as simple as your signature would be appreciated.

Please sign the form on the noticeboard in the Clubhouse..

If you’re curious about the canal and campaign visit http://www.cotswoldcanals.com Any questions, contact Peter Hutchison on 07736 424200, peter.hutchison@ukonline.co.uk If you know of any organisations that might be sympathic to this cause, stick up a petition form there. You can get one off the site or I’ll send you one

Nottingham Sprints - June - The Balcony - Photos

5-6 June 2004

Richmond was represented by Richard Holt, Tim Joiner, Sue Back, Sam Hyman, Nettie Kelly, Gavin Turrell, Ollie Simms, Jordan Mungovan, our very own Blog Neil Thomas, and four of our best newcomers to the sport.

Richard as usual won every race he took part in, Neil and Tim were selected to paddle for Cambridge, Nettie, Ollie, Jordan and Sam paddled with great aplomb and credit to the club and Gavin came in 3rd in the 200m just 0.04sec behind Tim Brabants!

In the lightning class, Jack, Ciaran, Josh and Ben, resplendant for the first time in the red Richmond uniform and looking very co-ordinated with their red Richmond 'mini wings, took honours in all their races. Ciaran and Jack were 3rd and 4th respectively in their 500m final, and Josh and Ben came 1st and 2nd in theirs.

The weekend's success was rounded off by a clean sweep in 3rd to 6th of Jack, Josh, Ben and Ciaran in the 1000m final.
