The torrential rain and gale force winds didn’t deter Richmond’s small sprint racing team at the second national regatta of the year, held May 11th/ 12th.
Again the team was mainly made up of juniors with good performances from both the more experienced and newer paddlers. Marko continued his excellent form from April in the canoe classes, winning the junior 1000m by a considerable distance and finishing 2nd in the senior 200m & 500m. Nick was at the top end of boys A, finishing 3rd in the K1 and K2 1000m, and Alison raced all three distances in Girls A/B K2, finishing 4th in each.
In girls D classes, Lily, Ellie & Mia all took podium positions in the K4 events, with Lily & Ellie also finishing 2nd in the K2 500m and reaching final 1 in the k1 events. In boys D, Ben has a very successful first Nottingham regatta, and reached finals in both K1 events. Ben & Archie also paddled as part of the mixed club K4 that was 2nd in the 1000m. Rhiannon was also racing at her first regatta in the lightning event and won her 500m heat before finishing 5th in the final.
Again there were only a few seniors racing. In Masters A Gabor and Shane continued their April battles, with Gabor winning the 200m by less than half a second from Shane. They then went on to win the K2 event. Sean & Randall were part of the winning Masters C K4 in the 1000m event.
Full results and promotions/ demotions are available here. The next regatta is the Interclub Championships on June 22nd/ 23rd where a much bigger team will be needed to secure a good club placing. Entries as normal to Ollie H.
