Recent Richmond Racing

By 11 July 2013No Comments

The recent sunny weather has seen many Richmond paddlers getting out on the water at local sprint and marathon events.

Last Saturday over 35 juniors raced at the Royal Canoe Club Sprint regatta over 500m and 200m. There were paddlers from all age groups from U10 to U18, and age group wins for Francis, Lilla & Harry. The impressive Richmond turnout is largely due to the hard work from all our junior coaches to get our younger paddlers out and racing, and picking up valuable experience.

On Sunday a very small Richmond contingent raced at the Thames Valley race, with Klaudia and Kasia winning the division 6 K2 race and Clive and Martin finishing 3rd in the division 5.

The previous Sunday saw the latest in the series of marathon assessment races, held at Falcon Canoe Club, Oxford. Again the weather was superb, with hot conditions being good for tanning but not so good for two hours plus hard paddling. There were wins for Nick in junior boys, Lizzie in senior ladies and a 3rd for Tom in senior men, another good set of assessment results for these paddlers. At the Hasler race Isaac put his recent training to good use with an excellent 1st place in division 3, his first win over this distance. Harry got a 3rd place in division 6 and a well earnt promotion to division 5 in the process.

The next regional marathon is our very own Hasler race on 11th August. If you are not racing, you can instead help out. Volunteers are required for a variety of tasks, speak to Will for more info.
